Thoughts on goals, habits and systems
This is a living document of my pithy notions regarding goal-oriented living.
Plan
A goal without a well-thought-out plan is just a daydream. This took way too long for me to learn.
Explore
When you have a goal, take some time to journal on it.
Do you really want it, or do you just like the idea?
What's motivating you, why do you want it?
How important is it to you?
What are you willing to sacrifice to make it happen?
Ambiguity
Aggressively remove ambiguity. State your goal, then define what it means to accomplish it. Be specific. Write down measurable criteria. Then make a plan. Be even more specific. Break down tasks into subtasks. Be ultra specific.
Precision
Know exactly what action to take, when to take it, and why you're taking it.
Honesty
Pretty much all goals require a consistent practice. If you don't feel like practicing, ask yourself then and there "If I don't do this practice, do I accept that I won't reach my goal?" Be honest with yourself.
